Submersible borehole pumps for very high heads

Tuesday, November 20th, 2018 von admin

These new submersible borehole pumps developed by KSB have a diameter of up to 50 inches, i.e. 1250 mm, and a drive rating of up to 5 MW. These pumps will be capable of handling

  • flow rates of up to 5000 m³/h
  • at heads of up to 1500 m.

Compared with dry-installed pump sets, the advantage of submersible borehole pumps is -acc. to an information of the manufacturer- “the notably longer service life and the fact that pumps with wet motors are not compromised by flooding.” KSB is one of the few manufacturers worldwide to offer double-entry designs for particularly high load conditions alongside “normal” single-entry designs.

This double-entry design was originally used for drainage applications in mines. The heads required in these applications would have created very high axial thrusts in single-entry pump designs, placing extremely high loads on the bearings. The back-to-back impeller arrangement employed in double-entry designs not only reduces the axial thrust but also the associated bearing loads.

KSB extended portfolio with vertical turbine pumps

Tuesday, October 23rd, 2018 von admin

The KSB Group extended its portfolio by adding a comprehensive programme of vertical turbine pumps. The so-called B Pumps are multistage vertical turbine pumps with a submerged hydraulic system. The pump sets comprise a discharge casing assembly, a column pipe and a pump bowl assembly. In total, customers can choose from 17 sizes with three different impeller types.

  • The pump sets cover heads of up to 200 metres.
  • Flow rates of up to 720 l/sec.
  • Available with one to 25 stages,
  • with stage casing diameters ranging from six to 24 inches.

KSB at BrauBeviale 2018 in Nuremberg

Vitachrom with SuPremE motor, PumpDrive and PumpMeter

KSB Group will be showcasing its comprehensive range of pumps and valves for sterile/hygienic applications and support processes at Brau Beviale 2018 in Nuremberg from 13 to 15 November 2018.

Naturally, the focal point of KSB’s presentation will be the five hygienic food pump type series Vitachrom, Vitacast, Vitalobe, Vitaprime and Vitastage. Because of the large number of design variants the pumps are offered in, they are ideally suited for almost any pumping task in the fields of liquid or viscous food transport. The pumps’ excellent cleaning and steaming in place (CIP/SIP) capabilities are promoted by the almost complete lack of dead volume, the electropolished wetted components and the use of high-grade stainless steels. All pumps belonging to the Vita series have been awarded the certificates common to the industry, such as EHEDG, and their elastomer components conform to FDA standards.

Pumps cut power consumption at Palazzo Grassi in Venice

Thursday, August 16th, 2018 von admin

One of the most important museums of contemporary art in Italy, the famous Palazzo Grassi in Venice, is able to considerably improve its energy balance due to the use of pumps with highly efficient, intelligent drives. The pumps and valves to modernise the heating and air-conditioning systems were supplied by pump manufacturer KSB.

For a building of historical and architectural significance, maintaining a particular room temperature and humidity as well as air quality is a costly and major challenge. After a careful analysis of the energy consumption, those responsible for building management started an extensive refurbishment project in 2015. Planning and installing a completely new pumping infrastructure in a historic building presents a great challenge since the building was not designed for such equipment.

Impeller improves suction characteristics in high-pressure pumps

Tuesday, July 24th, 2018 von admin

KSB experts developed a special impeller for its Movitec multistage high-pressure pumps. This new impeller significantly improves these pumps’ suction characteristics (NPSH value).

It proves its worth particularly in applications with critical inlet conditions (e.g. boiler feed applications) as well as applications in which the pump is required to take in water from low-lying tanks or at higher temperatures. Under these conditions, a pressure drop in the intake area may cause cavitation to occur in the first pump stage. This can result in excessive wear of pump parts or motor bearings as well as a reduced service life of the pump due to damaged parts and an unbalanced hydraulic system.

The new impeller is offered as an alternative to the standard product.

New app simplifies pump operation

Wednesday, July 18th, 2018 von admin

This new KSB app called ‘FlowManager’ can be used to operate and configure the PumpDrive 2 and PumpDrive 2 Eco variable speed systems. It can also be used to adjust the fixed speed of MyFlow Drive to the optimum operating point. The new KSB FlowManager app features all of the familiar basic functions from previous versions of the MyPump Drive app and supports both IOS and Android devices. It is available for download from the iTunes Store and Google Play Store free of charge.

The app’s main functions can be summarised under the terms operation and monitoring.
