As a replacement to conventional submersible pumps, the manufacturer Hermetic supplied two 8-stage, sealless canned motor pumps. The distinctive feature of the transformation was the customized adaptation of the pumps to the existing plant and its vessels. The pumps were designed for easy installation in the existing tank (with a diameter of 500 mm). The customer, a Swiss fine chemicals manufacturer, thus saves the costly, time-consuming conversion of the existing systems in its production plant.

The actually supplied two canned motor pumps, with “tandem” design, convey the medium [C3 fraction with propylene as main constituent] at a temperature of 22 °C. The differential head [H] is 379 m at a flow rate [Q] of 7.8 m³/h. The pump units are designed for a nominal pressure of 40 bar and have temperature- and level-monitoring features. For online monitoring of the hydraulic axial bearing, a rotor-position monitoring feature is also provided.
The special tandem design of the multistage pumps results in minimal shaft deflection and load relief at the slide bearings. The “ZART” (Zero Axial and Radial Thrust) technology ensures a contact- and wear-free running of the rotor unit.
Achema 2015 will see KSB showcase totally leak-free canned motor pumps from the Ecochem Non-Seal range designed to transport hazardous, aggressive, flammable and explosive fluids. The pumps are also capable of handling toxic and extremely hot or cold media as well as volatile or valuable liquids.

The pump’s compact, lightweight yet sturdy design with less number of components helps it to minimize assembly and dismantling time and occupy less space. The pump named i-Can is hailed as a step-up from the conventional mechanical seal pump category which requires heavy maintenance.
Russian refineries have honoured Hermetic once more with an award for their standard of quality, safety, reliability and on-site customer support. On the occasion of the Neftegaz in Moscow, an independent survey by the Russian Ministry of Energy selected Hermetic-Pumpen GmbH as the Russian oil and gas industry’s best centrifugal pump manufacturer for 2014.
Hermetic-Pumpen has developed a comprehensive product series with which the company can satisfy practically all its customers’ requests but with shorter lead times. The ranges of canned motor pumps provide the basis for individually configurable pumps that, thanks to the huge number of possible combinations of the individual modules, are available in around 700,000,000 variations.
Hermetic-Pumpen GmbH, located in the German Black Forest town of Gundelfingen near Freiburg, was recognised with the “Russian oil and gas industries’ best centrifugal-pump manufacturer for 2013” award during the NefteGasPererabotka conference for Russian refineries. The award was presented recently in Moscow and is the result of an independent survey involving 60 Russian refineries.
Hermetic canned motor pumps are known for their high Mean Time Between Failure (MTBF). However, should a pump fail, the urgency of spare part delivery is particularly high. At worst, loss of production or downtime of entire plant sections is impending. To respond as quickly as possible, Hermetic optimised not only production, processing and packaging of urgent orders, but also their dispatch: Due to classification as “Known Consignor” by the Federal Aviation Office (Luftfahrt-Bundesamt), spare parts or complete pumps may be packed ready for airfreight and dispatched at the production site in Germany. Afterwards, a freight forwarder, who is also qualified, transports the goods from the factory directly to the aircraft.
