On 18 April 2013, pumps and valves manufacturer KSB inaugurated its new factory in Jundiaí, Brazil, some 50 km north of São Paulo. The location, designed as a production site for standard pumps and valves, will begin by manufacturing ball, gate and globe valves. Once the valve production is up and running, the company will start supplying the market with standard pumps from the new location. KSB has been present in Brazil with a factory since 1954, currently has a workforce of 933, and recruits the majority of its customers from the chemical and petrochemical industries, from general industry and the water management field.
The heart of this pump is a innovative, wearless ceramic valve which ensures 100% starting from as low as 0.3 bar on, accounted for by the specific latching position and the valves’ associated “skip effect” and furthermore enable switching cycles with extremely high frequency.
The SSV, a special automatic recirculation valve, automatically protects centrifugal pumps – especially boiler feed water pumps – against wear and damage, as can occur if the pump runs dry or during low-load operation. Typical damages are for example a temperature increase, which can lead to partial evaporation of the medium, or recirculation in the impeller. It can also lead to flow separation and cavitation in the pump. Similarly, increased vibration and mechanical stresses occur in the pump and cause damage. The SSV bypass control valve opens as soon as the process flow demand falls to the same level as the minimum flow required by the pump. In this way, the specified minimum continuous flow required by the pump is maintained, even if there is zero process flow demand.
