Advanced pump analytics platform shortlisted for Swiss Digital Economy Award

Sulzer will be joining other leading high-tech companies for the Swiss Digital Economy Awards which will be held on November 21 in Zurich. Its Blue Box solution, which uses existing pump data to deliver near-real-time analysis of pump performance and reliability, has been shortlisted for an award in the Highest Digital Quality category.

Pumps for the ISS

Liquid pumps made by KNF were on board an HTV-7 unmanned cargo spacecraft launched from Japan on September 23, 2018, destined for the International Space Station (ISS). These space-worthy liquid pumps are part of a new Life Support Rack for the ISS. Also known as an Advanced Closed Loop System (ACLS), the rack purifies air and produces oxygen for the ISS. It was developed by Airbus Defence and Space for the European Space Agency (ESA). The new ACLS rack will be installed in the ISS’s Destiny module (also known as the US Lab) by ESA astronaut and ISS commander Alexander Gerst on November 2, 2018.

KNF-Engineers worked with Airbus for four years to specify and design the pump, which is based on the proven FEM 1.09 dosing pump. The project was part of Airbus’s COTS (commercial off-the-shelf) program, which uses well-established components to reduce the price tag for space flight.

KSB extended portfolio with vertical turbine pumps

The KSB Group extended its portfolio by adding a comprehensive programme of vertical turbine pumps. The so-called B Pumps are multistage vertical turbine pumps with a submerged hydraulic system. The pump sets comprise a discharge casing assembly, a column pipe and a pump bowl assembly. In total, customers can choose from 17 sizes with three different impeller types.

  • The pump sets cover heads of up to 200 metres.
  • Flow rates of up to 720 l/sec.
  • Available with one to 25 stages,
  • with stage casing diameters ranging from six to 24 inches.

VDMA at Achema: Pumps + Vacuum pumps meeting “Industry 4.0” demands

The future pump and vacuum pump is intelligent and digitally integrated, according to manufacturers joined at VDMA Pumps + Systems as well as VDMA Vacuum technology. At present manufacturers are developing an administration shell based upon existing information models. This shell, the digital twin, contains all data specifying a pump. „All requested realizations as for example an OPC UA companion specification can be directly deducted from information out of the administration shell. This is evident when developing a pump to meet “Industry 4.0” demands,“ informs Christoph Singrün, managing director at VDMA Pumps + Systems, in the run-up to the Achema in Frankfurt.

Distance Learning Study 2015 Programme for “Pump Engineers”

The programme is an extra-occupational academic distance-learning study course with only four attendance periods (one week each) in Austria and Germany. The free time management allows the participants to define their own pace of progress within the programme which corresponds to a time equivalent of approximately 400 hours. The course for “Certified Energy Consultants for Pumps and Pump Systems” is integrated into the programme.
