Impeller improves suction characteristics in high-pressure pumps

KSB experts developed a special impeller for its Movitec multistage high-pressure pumps. This new impeller significantly improves these pumps’ suction characteristics (NPSH value).

It proves its worth particularly in applications with critical inlet conditions (e.g. boiler feed applications) as well as applications in which the pump is required to take in water from low-lying tanks or at higher temperatures. Under these conditions, a pressure drop in the intake area may cause cavitation to occur in the first pump stage. This can result in excessive wear of pump parts or motor bearings as well as a reduced service life of the pump due to damaged parts and an unbalanced hydraulic system.

The new impeller is offered as an alternative to the standard product.

Sulzer: Key Safety Pumps for the Kilpilahti Power Plant

Sulzer has secured two pump orders from Técnicas Reunidas for the Kilpilahti combined heat and power plant in Porvoo, Finland. The plant is currently owned by Neste, Veolia, and Borealis. The orders comprise 12 feedwater pumps and 11 Ahlstar pumps, which will be manufactured by Sulzer in Germany and Finland respectively.

Técnicas Reunidas is acting as an engineering, procurement, and construction (EPC) contractor for the construction of the Kilpilahti project. Three new steam generators with a capacity of 450MW of thermal heat and a power output of around 30MWwill be installed. The power plant will comply with the latest environmental regulations, including the European Commission’s Industrial Emissions Directive (IED).

KEPL to dispatch indigenously developed API steam turbine

KEPL Turbine-3D imageKirloskar Ebara Pumps Limited (KEPL) has successfully completed the testing of indigenously-developed API steam turbine ‘K-TUR’, which is being supplied to Indian Oil Corporation Limited, Vadodara facility as a driver for the Boiler Feed Water Pump. The test was conducted at KEPL Kirloskarvadi works in Maharashtra.

Fire Fighting Pump Unit (2)Following the Fukushima nuclear disaster in 2011, safety regulations at many nuclear plants have been considerably tightened, this has led to an increased demand for fire fighting pump systems. These systems must comply with extremely strict requirements and regulations. Working closely together with the Belgian distributor Rental Pumps, BBA Pumps has recently completed one of the most demanding projects in its history – the delivery of nine mobile disaster relief pumping systems. These pumps are supplied to provide an extra level of safety in a large nuclear power plant.
