Siemens: Motors for high thrust pump applications in harsh environments

Expanding its extensive range of Simotics low-voltage Nema motors, Siemens adds in-line, vertical solid shaft (VSS) motors to its portfolio – the LP100 series – in the Nema Premium efficiency class.

Expanding its extensive range of Simotics low-voltage Nema motors, Siemens adds in-line, vertical solid shaft (VSS) motors to its portfolio – the LP100 series – in the Nema Premium efficiency class. They have been specifically designed to address hight thrust pump applications and now have an extra high thrust capability allowing them to be teamed up with many pump types. The motors comply with the new Nema Premium efficiency class, the highest efficiency class required today for Nema low-voltage induction motors in the US. A range of special options is available for the series so that these motors comply with or exceed the most stringent industrial standards and can be used to address a wide range of applications.

Sulzer Global Maintenance Network now Open to Franz Wölfer Customers

Monday, February 9th, 2015 von admin

wölferSulzer operates one of the most comprehensive maintenance, repair and technical support services for large capacity motors and generators worldwide, providing everything from testing to complete re-builds. Owners and operators of three-phase asynchronous motors manufactured by Franz Wölfer Elektromaschinenfabrik can now call Sulzer from anywhere in the world to assist with the repair and maintenance of their motors, safe in the knowledge that the service is fully supported by the manufacturer.

President of Rotating Equipment Services at Sulzer, Peter Alexander, ‘‘We have worked hard to establish a network of service centers at strategic locations around the globe where we can service any large motor or generator. These specialist manufacturing, engineering and test facilities are supported by highly trained installation and commissioning teams that can provide service onsite anywhere around the globe, including during active service out at sea. This agreement with Wölfer is a great opportunity to benefit all their customers.”

WEG: New permanent-magnet motor surpasses IE4 standard

Thursday, April 10th, 2014 von admin

WEG2177_Bild1WEG has launched a permanent-magnet motor that fulfils this demanding requirement, making it one of the first to qualify for the IE5 Ultra Premium Motor designation.  With losses roughly 20 % lower than Super Premium models, it is among the first Ultra Premium motors on the market that fulfil the present criteria for the potential IE5 energy efficiency class. This makes the W22 permanent-magnet motor one of the most efficient electric motors currently available world-wide.

Is your electric motor trying to tell you something?

Tuesday, January 28th, 2014 von admin

PR2351_50604Plant and maintenance engineers often seem to have an intuitive nose for trouble, so are able to predict pending problems with machinery and take pre-emptive action to prevent them. It is not the result of magical powers, rather of long experience with plant and machinery. Bill Bertram of motor maker Marathon Electric explains how different motor sounds can be interpretedÖ: “If you walk around a piece of plant that is running, you will hear it making a noise. If you listen carefully you will be able to pick out individual elements within the overall sound. For instance, you may be able to hear a fan whirring, a pump thumping and a conveyor rumbling.”

Siemens introduces new cabinet inverter for pumps

Wednesday, October 9th, 2013 von admin

IDT2013104098-01_300dpiWith the Sinamics G120P Cabinet, Siemens Drive Technologies Division is now able to provide an inverter cabinet unit especially adapted to pumps, fans, and compressors. The power spectrum of the existing Sinamics G120P series is thus extended to 200 kW. In line with the Integrated Drive Systems strategy, the drive is optimally adapted to operation with Simotics severe-duty and flexible-duty motors. For example, the inverter output currents have been adapted to the motor rated currents and the motors to the rated pulse frequencies of the inverters. Because the components interact as an integrated drive system, the voltage is optimally utilized and the noise level of the motor is also reduced by 4 dB. The efficiency of the overall system is 98 percent. The new inverter also has application-specific functions that enable economical operation of pumps.

ABB: High power pump motor with advanced rotor design

Wednesday, December 19th, 2012 von admin

High voltage 2-pole induction motor features robust construction, excellent reliability, reduced maintenance requirements and a long lifetime even when operated in harsh environments. It is ideal for driving pumps and compressors, especially in the chemical, oil & gas, water and wastewater sectors. The new motor is rated up to 13.5 MW ABB has introduced a new 2-pole motor to complete its high voltage modular induction range. With the new motor the range extends from IEC frame size 400 to 800, therefore covering all general high voltage needs in today’s markets. “We developed this new product following requests from customers for a high power 2-pole motor,” says Ms Karita Forss of ABB’s high voltage induction motor product management. “It is especially suitable for driving water injection pumps on FPSOs (floating production, storage and offloading units) and main oil pipeline pumps, as well as other applications in chemical, oil & gas installations, water and wastewater treatment plants.”
