The MW500 frequency inverter with decentralised design has been developed for space-saving solutions, such as directly motor mounted or adjacent to the motor on the wall. As a result, the need for lengthy cables and switch cabinets is eliminated. MW500 is robust with an IP66 protection rating. It can withstand high overloading of 150% for 60 seconds every 10 minutes, and operate in temperatures up to 40°C (wall installation) and 50°C (motor installation). With increased ruggedness compared to alternative technologies, it provides reliable operation over a long service life. The inverter is designed to operate asynchronous motors in the power range 0.75 to 7.5 kW, and is offered as three variants for a mains voltage of 380 to 400V (A: 1.1 to 1.5 kW, B: 2.2 – 4 kW and C: 5.5 – 7.5 kW), and for 200 to 240V, as variant A (0.75 to 1.1 kW). It is ideal for many pump applications.
Mitsubishi Electric has added dust and splash-proof versions with an IP55 protection rating to its FR-A800 series of frequency inverters. Specially designed for harsh environments and tailored to the requirements of pumps, the drives are highly robust and ideally suited for use in industrial and commercial building automation systems as well as in heating, ventilation and air-conditioning systems. The new FR-A846 series with an IP55 protection rating represents Mitsubishi Electric’s latest drive technology in the output range from 400 watts up to 160 kW. The drive’s EMC filter built in as standard ensures full compliance with the EMC Directive (EN 61800-3, 1st environment, category C2) while its DC reactor – also built in as standard – ensures full compliance with IEC 61000-3-12 for reducing and limiting harmonic currents so that separate certification is not required. The FR-A846 also has a built-in main switch version with locking option.
The ACS580 is ABB’s all-compatible general purpose drive. Through drive selection, set up, operation and maintenance, the ACS580 turns complicated to simple to control processes efficiently. The ACS580 power range is 0.75 to 250 kW and voltage range is 208 to 480 V.
The wall-mounted drive is available with IP21 enclosure and from now on the drives with IP55 enclosure for harsh environments are available as well.

With the Sinamics G120P Cabinet, Siemens Drive Technologies Division is now able to provide an inverter cabinet unit especially adapted to pumps, fans, and compressors. The power spectrum of the existing Sinamics G120P series is thus extended to 200 kW. In line with the Integrated Drive Systems strategy, the drive is optimally adapted to operation with Simotics severe-duty and flexible-duty motors. For example, the inverter output currents have been adapted to the motor rated currents and the motors to the rated pulse frequencies of the inverters. Because the components interact as an integrated drive system, the voltage is optimally utilized and the noise level of the motor is also reduced by 4 dB. The efficiency of the overall system is 98 percent. The new inverter also has application-specific functions that enable economical operation of pumps.
This 3 inch diameter submersible pump is made of stainless steel. It comes with a three-phase motor with IP68 protection class. This pump reaches a maximum speed of 8.400 RPM at 150Hz. With 0,75 up to 1,10 kW motors, the pump has a total volume of 83 liter per minute.
Allweiler, a Colafax brand, based in Radolfzell, Germany, has been awarded third place in the Baden-Württembergian state competition for environmental technology in the Measurement, Control, and Regulation category. Its entry was an advanced electronic condition monitoring and control solution for pumps known as Allmind.
Zellstoff Pöls, in Austria, is one of the largest manufacturer of high quality, chlorine-free bleached long-fibre sulphate pulp in Central and South Eastern Europe. For the new PM2 paper machine, Nash is supplying the vacuum system for dewatering in the wire section and the press section. The Zellstoff Pöls PM2 focuses on “machine glazed” papers (a paper with very high strength), and incorporates the production of paper basis weights between 28 and 120 g/m². This wide product spectrum places high demands on the flexibility of the vacuum system, as the method of drying has to adapt to each paper grade. The major challenge was adapting the vacuum at the various suction points for each specified paper weight and the required drying needs. This was accomplished through the use of frequency converters that allowed for “fine adjustment” of the speed and the vacuum level to meet the specific requirements of the paper grade produced.
