South Africa is currently dealing with the problem of acid water because underneath the old gold mining city of Johannesburg is a lake which contains heavily contaminated water, which spreads horizontally and vertically into the abandoned pits of the former gold mines. Meanwhile, the water line has reached a critically high level, as determined by the specialists from Andritz Ritz, which was given the first order to drain the mine water in 2010. The execution of the project was delayed by four years however, and it was only in spring 2014 that two powerful submersible motor pumps were installed in the middle of Johannesburg city centre, in the so-called “Central Basin”, with each pump capable of bringing 1,500 m³/h of water to the surface.
New additions to the Weda electric submersible pumps range are 1 HP and under, c-UL-us approved, 60Hz single-phase drainage, sludge and residual pumps. They come in two voltage variants, 115V and 230V, and join the 50Hz range. Each of the Weda electric submersible pumps is now available in a 50Hz and a 60Hz version. The range consists of the Weda 04 and Weda 08 drainage pumps, the Weda 04B residual pump and the Weda 04S and 08S sludge/trash pumps.
The power grid in Southern Sweden is susceptible to disruptions. To address issues such as transmission bottlenecks, the Swedish national grid operator Svenska Kraftnät has set up the SydVästlänken project. Started in 2012, the project incorporates a 270 km underground cable and a 250km overhead power line.
Swedish contractor Skanska handles the bulk of the underground cable laying. It has invested in Atlas Copco on-site generators and submersible dewatering pumps to meet the demanding specifications of this project.
Xylem has launched a new series of submersible dewatering pumps modelled on its iconic and hugely popular Flygt Bibo pump. The new Bibo range incorporates several proven design features taken from the legendary dewatering pump, as well as innovative enhancements that give the new pumps extrem wear resistance and uptime capability. The new range will be unveiled for the first time at the Bauma trade show in Munich on Monday 15th April at 2pm, Hall A6, # 427/528. Bibo series has been designed for the toughest dewatering environments including
