The target application for this positive displacement quaternary diaphragm pump series is the continuous dosing of high-value additives in the food and beverage and personal care industries (e.g. to add concentrates to a fluid stream for soft drinks) as well as for in-line dilution. These ‘QuattroTec’ called pumps can provide a consistent flow that results in a constant and continuous dosing of ingredients in hygienic processes.

The pump casing of Fristam FDS pumps comes in three parts, consisting of an intermediate flange, the screw casing and the pump cover. This enables individual adaptation of the connections to any conceivable production system requirement. Thanks to central positioning of the gearwheels inside the bearing support area, the entire pump comes in a very compact design. Moreover, its massive shaft has reinforcements in the area of critical diameters to ensure maximum rigidity. Further stability is achieved through a combination of particular large bearings and an increased bearing distance. The result is smooth running with minimal wear.
Pure-Fuse diaphragm technology incorporates a one-piece design that eliminates product-trap areas between the outer piston and diaphragm that can harbor bacteria, a critical consideration for hygienic applications. This patented design also provides an unbroken fluid-contact surface for CIP capability and reduced contamination risks. Pure-Fuse combines food-grade plastics and elastomers with a stainless-steel core using no adhesives or nylon fabric that can contaminate process fluids in the event of a breech. In addition, by eliminating the outer piston Pure-Fuse diaphragms experience reduced abrasion, which results in longer diaphragm life.
Single-flow hygienic Twin-Screw-Pumps, type SLH from ITT Bornemann, have been successfully installed in many applications in the food-, beverage and pharmaceutical industry for many years. It is one of the main functions to pump high viscous fluids. Because of the high rotational speed range (up to 3600 rpm) it is also possible for the pump to handle low viscous products with a high flow velocity. So it is possible to use the SLH Twin-Screw-Pumps also for the CIP-Process.
To reach the high criteria of hygienic design ITT Bornemann designs the pump inside and outside in best way without loss of functionality. Special eye-catcher at the KSB stand from 11 to 13 November 2014 will be the Salino Pressure Center, a system designed for economical water treatment based on membrane technology. The Frankenthal-based pump manufacturer will showcase this product at the Nuremberg trade fair at the request of engineering contractors operating at a global level since many non-European breweries must treat their process water themselves. The Salino Pressure Center consists of an axial piston pump and an axial piston motor, arranged on a common shaft. Driven by the return flow from the membrane, the axial piston motor transfers its power directly to the pump shaft. As pipes are not required between the individual components, the system takes up minimal space and is highly energy-efficient.
Wilden has received Patent No. 8,496,451 from the United States Patent and Trademark Office for its Full-Stroke Integral Piston Diaphragm (FSIPD). “The FSIPD provides the clean-ability that customers need and adds the flow rate and suction-lift performance they want. In addition, customers will be happy to know that a Wilden FSIPD is about half the cost of a PTFE IPD,” says Robert Jack, Development Engineer, Wilden Pump and Engineering.
Constructed of Wil-Flex™ (Santoprene®), FSIPDs do not incorporate an outer metallic plate that requires the pump to be cleaned manually. Instead, the metallic plate is integrated into the material itself, resulting in a diaphragm design that uses the same shaft and inner piston as Wilden’s rubber and TPE diaphragms to maximize performance. Wil-Flex FSIPDs are easy to install and do not require inverting of the diaphragm for installation. Wilden FSIPDs do not use any adhesives that could get exposed to the pumping media.
Special eye-catcher at the KSB stand at drinktec in Munich from 16 – 20 September 2013 will be the new SuPremE pump motor. Developed by KSB, it is a real highlight where saving energy is concerned. With its synchronous reluctance principle the motor provides users with a technology that is ideally suited to fulfil all future requirements for energy-efficient drives of pumps. It meets the planned IE4 efficiency requirements to IEC/CD 60034-30 Ed. 2 already today.
