Hermetically sealed Twin-Screw Pump for chemical and petrochemical sectors

ITT Bornemann launched a new hermetically-sealed pump, named SLW, at Achema 2018 in Frankfurt, Germany. This pump serie uses a magnetic coupling for a hermetic pump drive. With the sealed fluid chamber, critical media with harmful substances are confined to the pump and not released into the environment.

  • The design allows the two screws to convey the product and transmit the torque.
  • The single-volute design is also compact and requires a small footprint for installation.
  • The product is lubricated with inboard bearings.
  • The less-wear parts design leads to low-maintenance, resulting in high MTBF.

Suspended pumps with hydraulic system of standardised chemical pumps

The Estigia type series extends KSB product portfolio for the chemical and petrochemical industries and other applications. It will be showcased at Achema 2018 trade fair in Frankfurt.

The low-pressure suspended pumps are designed for vertical wet installation in a closed tank under atmospheric pressure. For the installation depth, various lengths ranging from a minimum of 852 mm to a maximum of 6402 mm are available and three discharge pipe diameters can be selected for each pump size.

High-speed metering gear pumps for complex applications

Oerlikon Barmag pumps are used in processes at the chemicals, plastics, paints and lacquers industries as well as in PUR applications. One of the biggest challenges is metering poorly-lubricating media. The pump manufacturer wil show at Achema in Frankfurt the GM and GA ranges an a high-speed pump with sealed product space.

The main advantage of the high-speed pump is the sealed product space. The space within the pump that comes into contact with the media is therefore limited to the area around the gears. The external, ball-bearing support points in the high-speed pump are externally lubricated, hence ensuring that the product to be metered does not cause damage as a result of poor lubrication.

An ‘alignment free’ pump

It is imperative that pumping systems are designed and operated in a way that reduces the amount of harmful stress placed on components. One area that has been difficult to achieve and maintain is shaft alignment. Failure to properly align a pump’s mating shafts will eventually lead to challenges associated with shaft fatigue and failure, resulting in compromised pumping-system uptime, reliability and safety. This can then result in costly maintenance or even knock the pump out of service and halt production.

Focused on this problem, Blackmer developed GNX Series sliding vane pumps, which are called by the manufacturer “industry’s first alignment-free”. It is a reduced-speed pump for use in both portable and stationary applications.

Gather: From laboratory to production via pilot plant

A process generally undergoes initial development within a laboratory and is then made production ready in pilot or mini plants. During this scale-up, a range of different problems can emerge, e.g., in the way temperatures behave. In a laboratory, a process may be endothermic but becomes exothermic in production. How pumps behave in relation to peripheral equipment can change under full-scale production conditions, Sven Borghoff describes a coordinated pump and drive concept which makes scaling up easier.

Dosing pumps with multifunctional extensions for different pump types often used in laboratories generally have no particularly high temperature or pumping ranges. However, when scaling up, these aspects take on major significance. Gather uses its magnetic-driven pumps (Fig. 1) here. They are available in such a broad range that when scaling up from the laboratory to production via a mini or pilot plant, the pumping and control technology can be retained. The company cooperates with the chemical industry, institutes and universities to make process development from initial laboratory trials through to production easier.

Hermetic: 1 meter shaft = 15 meters immersion depth

As a replacement to conventional submersible pumps, the manufacturer Hermetic supplied two 8-stage, sealless canned motor pumps. The distinctive feature of the transformation was the customized adaptation of the pumps to the existing plant and its vessels. The pumps were designed for easy installation in the existing tank (with a diameter of 500 mm). The customer, a Swiss fine chemicals manufacturer, thus saves the costly, time-consuming conversion of the existing systems in its production plant.

Bungartz: A functional pump model at Chemtech, Mumbai

Chemtech World Expo – February 14-17, 2017 – is one of the largest events for the chemical industry. 600 exhibitors from 20 countries expect up to 40,000 visitors. At the same time eight international conferences and about 150 speakers are offered. In the German pavilion, the German community stand, organized by the VDMA, the company Bungartz will present the concepts of its problem-solver pumps at stand C6A, which also have a high intrinsic safety:

Sundyne: New low NPSHr, high-flow pump

sundyneThe Sundyne LMV-803Lr is an API 610 compliant pump available in either OH3 or OH5 motor mounting configuration that provides ultra-low NPSHr performance – approximately 5 ft (1.5 m), across the entire performance range – for flows to 800 GPM (180 m³ / hr) and heads to 1,000 ft (305 m).

The ultra-low NPSHr allows the pump to be installed at grade level, eliminating the expense of installation in a pit and performing maintenance in a confined space. The vertical design is ideal for use in refineries, NGL, petrochemical and chemical plants, as well as handling light hydrocarbon handling services, such as bottom pumps for de-ethanizers.

CP: New magnetic drive centrifugal pump up to 750 m³/h

cpThe Swiss pump manufacturer CP Pumpen AG has put a new pump size on the market. The new magnetic drive pump, MKP 250-200-315, enhances the MKP series. These pumps are – according a company’s information – “considered high-performance, energy-efficient, sturdy and very safe – regardless of which medium is pumped. CP’s development team was able to implement all of these product properties in the new MKP 250-200-315.”

“The demand for pumps with a large flow volume had increased in the past. With a volume of up to 750 m3/h, the new MKP is complementing our series with a size that is important for the market”, says Heinz Mathys, Marketing & Sales Director and member of the CP Management Team.
