Centrifugal pump with smaller footprint

A next-generation redesign of the Allmarine MA-S and MA-C series from Allweiler now provides more vertical installation options for centrifugal pumps with axial inlets in marine and general service applications.

The Allmarine MA-S with spacer coupling and the MA-C, a closed coupled version, not only consume a smaller footprint but also offer a special foot design to help assure stability of the pump in heavy seagoing conditions. A shorter, lighter design modifies the suction flange with integrated fixing holes for pedestal mounting of the foot to the ship foundation.

Hygienic pump for filtration systems with up to 80 bar

Pumps for wet flue gas desulfurization

A cement factory in Texas was among the first in the USA  to install wet flue gas scrubbers in order to reduce the sulfur dioxide emissions. This is a demanding application for pumps because the gypsum slurry that “scrubs” the gas is highly abrasive and corrosive.

Special pumps with housings and impellers made of mineral cast prove to be a perfect solution here.

Wet Flue Gas Desulfurization Scrubber systems are a vital component in various industries due to strict environmental regulations. First applications were coal fired power plants and waste incineration plants. Today, other industries utilize wet scrubbers in their day to day operations as well to scrub flue gas emissions from burners that utilize coal as a fuel source.

Innovations for wastewater pumping

At the previous Ifat, Swiss company Egger presented a further development of their completely retracted Turo centrifugal impeller TA for raw sewage conveyance. To date, a large number of pumping stations that are burdened with high solid loads (such as fibrous materials, wet wipes, etc.) have been successfully equipped with them. Blockages could be eliminated or – under extreme load – reduced to a minimum.

At Ifat 2018, the company is now presenting a low-clog and 100% dry-running-safe centrifugal pump hydraulic system. A further development of the Eurodyn hydrodynamic shaft seal in conjunction with Turo Vortex hydraulics makes absolutely dry-run safe use possible. The pump hydraulics and shaft seal operate completely contact-free. In the case of wastewater pumping operations that comply with the regulations, the pump set as designed by Egger enables 4-years of maintenance-free operation.

Predicting Performance Curves of Centrifugal Pumps In the Absence of OEM Data

Chemical and Mechanical Engineers in the oil & gas industry often carry out the task of conducting technical studies to evaluate piping and pipeline systems during events such as pump trips and block valve failures that can lead to

  • pipes cracking at the welded joints,
  • pump impellers rotating in the reverse direction and
  • damaged pipe supports due to excessive vibrations

to name a few. Although much literature is available to mitigate such disturbances, a key set of data to conduct transient studies are pump performance curves. A pump performance curve is a plot between pump head and flow rate. In Greenfield projects, when no pump vendor data is available, a necessity arises to use performance curves to conduct pipeline/piping studies to check for parameters such as design pressure.

New inline single stage centrifugal pump range

The new SIL pump range was developed by Sulzer to meet the process requirements in various general and industrial applications. The SIL pump range is developed for pumping mainly clean and slightly contaminated liquids, viscous liquids up to 250 cSt, and fibrous slurries up to a consistency of 1%. The hydraulic design ensures efficient pumping with a low NPSHr (net positive suction head required) across the whole pump range.

The inline design together with the monoblock construction makes the SIL pump compact, rigid and reliable. The pump is available either with an integrated motor or with a standard IEC motor. SIL pumps are easy and fast to install both in vertical and in horizontal positions, and they require only a small installation space.

Sulzer: Key Safety Pumps for the Kilpilahti Power Plant

Sulzer has secured two pump orders from Técnicas Reunidas for the Kilpilahti combined heat and power plant in Porvoo, Finland. The plant is currently owned by Neste, Veolia, and Borealis. The orders comprise 12 feedwater pumps and 11 Ahlstar pumps, which will be manufactured by Sulzer in Germany and Finland respectively.

Técnicas Reunidas is acting as an engineering, procurement, and construction (EPC) contractor for the construction of the Kilpilahti project. Three new steam generators with a capacity of 450MW of thermal heat and a power output of around 30MWwill be installed. The power plant will comply with the latest environmental regulations, including the European Commission’s Industrial Emissions Directive (IED).

Sulzer: Centrifugal Pump Package to Fibria Celulose in Brazil

Ahlstar_Process_PumpSulzer has been awarded a frame contract for process and medium consistency pumps to the Horizonte 2 project by Fibria Celulose SA, a Brazilian forestry company and the world’s leading eucalyptus pulp producer. Fibria’s new production line will be built in the Três Lagoas Unit in the state of Mato Grosso do Sul and it is scheduled for startup in late 2017.

Fibria’s new production line with an annual capacity of 1.75 million tons will increase the capacity of Fibria’s existing Três Lagoas mill to 3.05 million tons of pulp per year. Sulzer supplies the manufacturing, testing, packaging, and installation supervision of the centrifugal pumps. The pump package contains highly efficient
