Blackmer: Screw Pumps for Bitumen Transfer Applications

Tuesday, April 18th, 2017 von admin

Traditionally used as a cement binder for hot-slab paving, liquid bitumen must be handled at very high temperatures in order to keep it at a workable viscosity. However, even at high temperatures liquid bitumen can be an extremely viscous and shear-sensitive product. Therefore, shipyard operators and tanker owners demand a pumping technology that has been specifically designed to transfer highly viscous liquids over great distances. Realizing the importance for pumping equipment that feature the design and performance characteristics required for transferring highly viscous liquids, Blackmer offers its S Series Twin Screw models for these marine applications.

Hot water version

The new CombiTherm Plus pump provides transfer of hot fluids without the need for additional, external cooling systems. The pump is available in two configurations suitable for the pumping of hot oil or hot water and provides an highly efficient and pumping solution. The air-cooled CombiTherm Plus pump provides transfer of hot oil or hot water in a wide range of applications including

  • injection molding,
  • chemical processing,
  • asphalt / bitumen and tar processing,
  • deep frying systems,
  • steam generators,
  • fuel heaters and
  • heat recovery systems.

The pump keeps fluid temperatures uniform to ensure processes are efficient while its design protects seal faces and bearings from the heat of the fluid; ensuring durable, low maintenance, long life operation.
