Play globally – but act locally

Following its acquisition of Colfax’s Fluid Handling business in late 2017, Circor International Inc., a US public company with 1.1 billion USD revenue and over 4,000 employees worldwide is bringing together more than 40 renowned pumps and valves brands under one direction, including Allweiler, GmbH. The Industrial Group is Circor’s largest business segment, and Allweiler is the largest brand within that group.

Sumit Mehrotra, President of Circor Industrial Group, explained Allweiler’s special position within the group: “The fact that Circor, an American corporation, has moved the headquarters of our Industrial Group to Allweiler’s Radolfzell location in Germany, indicates just how important this acquisition and Europe are to us.” Mr. Mehrotra went on to explain to ∆ p the strategy behind the Allweiler acquisition, its importance to the business and the ways in which Circor Industrial customers will benefit:

Centrifugal pump with smaller footprint

A next-generation redesign of the Allmarine MA-S and MA-C series from Allweiler now provides more vertical installation options for centrifugal pumps with axial inlets in marine and general service applications.

The Allmarine MA-S with spacer coupling and the MA-C, a closed coupled version, not only consume a smaller footprint but also offer a special foot design to help assure stability of the pump in heavy seagoing conditions. A shorter, lighter design modifies the suction flange with integrated fixing holes for pedestal mounting of the foot to the ship foundation.

Pump monitoring with Atex certification

At this year’s Achema, Allweiler will exhibit its intelligent condition and operation monitoring system (hall 8.0, booth D63). Known as IN-1000, it is now also available with Atex certification for use in EX zones. IN-1000 was developed specifically for Allweiler pumps that are used in operationally-critical and environmentally-sensitive applications in chemical engineering.

The IN-1000 can be used for a wide range of condition monitoring applications, from simple, single-pump installations to complex, multi-pump systems while improving safety and reducing operating costs simultaneously.

The basis of rotary positive displacement pump technology

This is a tale of two pump curves in storage and terminal applications: one steadily bending downward from pump shut-off head, the other barely a curve at all. Both curves match two different pump technologies used in the oil & gas industry. Only one of those pump technologies can achieve certain critical objectives for reliably pumping hydrocarbons with highly variable fluid properties and under varying operating conditions.

The nearly vertical “pressure stiff” performance curve of rotary positive displacement (PD) pumps stems from a basic principle: As a volumetric fluid handling technology, rotary PD pumps create flow and are insensitive to system pressure changes. They deliver a nearly constant volume of liquid over a range of discharge pressures. If your flow or pressure demands change frequently, or even occasionally, on any given day, keep this fact in mind when selecting pump technology for hydrocarbons.
