Pressure transmitters for remote commissioning of functional safety

Tuesday, July 3rd, 2018 von admin

Siemens presented Sitrans P320/420, the first pressure transmitter on the market to feature remote safety handling reducing commissioning time in applications requiring functional safety.

Via Simatic Process Device Manager (PDM) the safety integrity level (SIL) devices will be commissioned: rather than manually attending to each individual device across the facility, operators can commission transmitters from the control room. This next generation of pressure transmitters was developed according to IEC 61508 standard for the use in SIL 2/3.

Elbow pump made from plastic

Monday, June 18th, 2018 von admin

The use of elbow pumps is always indicated when large flow rates are to be pumped to low heads. This requires a propeller-like impeller with both axial inlet and outlet, which guides the out warding flow into a pipe bend. This geometry then allows the introduction of a long projecting pump shaft in the pipe bend up to the impeller. The bearing of the pump shaft takes place outside the pumping chamber and must be generously dimensioned in the axial direction. The adjustment of the delivery head is usually done with a belt drive between the pump shaft and motor. The new ROPP model – showcased at Achema 2018 – of the Germany based pump manufacturer Wernert is also based on this classic pump concept, but with a few additional technical features that should be of interest to the experts and pump users in the chemical industries:

Changing the rules for external gear pump operation

Tuesday, June 12th, 2018 von admin

The new Maag pump line for polymers named x6 class offers vastly improved volumetric efficiency. These pumps can operate at

  • reduced rpm,
  • shear rates and
  • temperatures,
  • and consequently reduces the residence time.

This will favorably impact production rate, polymer quality and pump lifetime, while significantly reducing energy consumption.

Plug & Play sensor enables predictive gear unit maintenance

Monday, June 4th, 2018 von admin

Gear unit manufacturer Flender will be launching its new DX500 product with associated DX Assist app at the Achema show in Frankfurt am Main. The new smart sensor in the Diagnostex product series is a plug & play solution for measurement of vibrations and temperatures on the gear unit and notifies the system operator of irregularities by app straight to his smartphone or tablet. It enables the planning of predictive service work before unscheduled interruptions or stoppages of the production process can occur.

An umpteen number of manufacturers facilitate pump technology searching

Thursday, May 24th, 2018 von admin

www.starpumpalliance.com a new selection portal for the pump users. The Star Pump Alliance has set itself the goal to assist professional users of pumps in selecting pump technology tailored to fit their specific applications. “Our portal offers extensive information about pump technologies as well as a tool for the individual selection of pumps with access to the product portfolios of different brands. This selector proposes to website visitors one or several suitable pump technologies for each specific application on the basis of the application characteristics the users have entered”, Kai Stegemann, General Manager of Star Pump Alliance GmbH.

Suspended pumps with hydraulic system of standardised chemical pumps

Friday, May 18th, 2018 von admin

The Estigia type series extends KSB product portfolio for the chemical and petrochemical industries and other applications. It will be showcased at Achema 2018 trade fair in Frankfurt.

The low-pressure suspended pumps are designed for vertical wet installation in a closed tank under atmospheric pressure. For the installation depth, various lengths ranging from a minimum of 852 mm to a maximum of 6402 mm are available and three discharge pipe diameters can be selected for each pump size.

Low flow with high head pump applications

Friday, May 18th, 2018 von admin

Side Channel Pumps are self-priming pumps that operate in low NPSH conditions & have the ability to handle up to 50% entrained gas. These pumps run at very low flow rates, while generating medium to high differential pressures.

Side Channel Pump specialist, Sero PumpSystems, will showcase these capabilities and the operation of multifunction pumps with their Mini Pump Lab (Fig.) at 2018 Achema  trade show in Frankfurt. Sero will demonstrate an affordable, easy and effective control of side channel pumps utilizing “Industrie 4.0”, as well as duty point monitoring within the pump’s performance range.

Augmented reality supports pump and valve service

Wednesday, May 9th, 2018 von admin

At this year’s Achema, KSB Service GmbH is, for the first time, presenting its new service concept based on augmented reality. It is all about working with data glasses linked with the Internet, or with a smartphone app. Via these devices users or technicians are guided during their service work by an expert per video and audio. The experts, looking into their screen at their usual service workplace, can assess the situation through the eyes of the person present at the site.

This helps instruct technicians who are not specialised in pumps, for example, to carry out common maintenance measures, step by step. Further, the data glasses can be used to transmit exploded views or screenshots that can then be viewed in the corresponding field.

High-speed metering gear pumps for complex applications

Friday, May 4th, 2018 von admin

Oerlikon Barmag pumps are used in processes at the chemicals, plastics, paints and lacquers industries as well as in PUR applications. One of the biggest challenges is metering poorly-lubricating media. The pump manufacturer wil show at Achema in Frankfurt the GM and GA ranges an a high-speed pump with sealed product space.

The main advantage of the high-speed pump is the sealed product space. The space within the pump that comes into contact with the media is therefore limited to the area around the gears. The external, ball-bearing support points in the high-speed pump are externally lubricated, hence ensuring that the product to be metered does not cause damage as a result of poor lubrication.

Hygienic pump for filtration systems with up to 80 bar

Thursday, May 3rd, 2018 von admin

Representing a specific evolution of Fristam FP centrifugal pumps, the FPH range combines all the construction benefits of the standard range, including open impellers and flow-optimised pumping channel, with the suitability for use under high system pressure and with high volumetric flows. What is more, FPH pumps transport media with a viscosity of up to 800 mPa s especially in membrane filtration systems.
