The smooth design of the rotary lobe T.Sano series means a completely smooth housing which attracts barely any dirt or dust. This design has been specially developed for the hygiene and food industry, because not only the materials and the cleanability of the pump chamber are subject to strict requirements in the food industry, the outer contours are also taken into account. High-Pressure Air-Operated Double-Diaphragm (AODD) Pumps Deliver The Operational Advantages Necessary For Optimized Operation Of Chamber Filter Presses.

In many industrial processes that feature the handling of liquids, the substances that are being transferred may occur in an aqueous or “muddy” state, with the liquid portion needing to be removed. This liquid-removal stage may take place during the production process – for example, in the filtration of edible oils or yeast solutions – but it more frequently occurs at the end of a process like wastewater treatment when the waste sludge that has formed must be withdrawn. Since the disposal of such sludges is calculated based on weight and volume, their thickening and drying is particularly lucrative for the processor. During the thickening and drying process, the sludges are treated using chemicals and/or physical processes so that the waste sludge forms into flake-like solids. After adjusting the pH level to neutral or alkaline via the use of milk of lime, the subsequent dewatering process separates the water for disposal, with the remaining volume of sludge significantly reduced.

The simplest technology for this process involves collection and thickening of the sludge through the use of gravity. However, it is significantly more effective to use technical drying methods via processes such as centrifuges and evaporators, or more commonly, chamber filter presses (Fig. 1).

Bailly Lapierre is one of the leading producers of Crémant de Bourgogne, a white or rose sparkling wine made predominantly from Pinot Noir and Chardonnay grapes. As is the case with many European wineries and vineyards, Bailly Lapierre exudes history and tradition. Not only can the company’s origins be traced back to the late Roman Empire when vineyards first began to flourish in the region, but its day-to-day operations are situated 50 meters (165 feet) underground in an ancient quarry that supplied the stone for some of the greatest works in France’s architectural heritage: the Pantheon, Notre-Dame de Paris and Chartres Cathedral. And if this wasn’t enough history, the location was also used as a German airplane hangar during World War II and as a mushroom-cultivation center until 1970.

KSB at Anuga FoodTec 2018 in Cologne

In the limelight at the KSB Anuga FoodTec trade fair stand is, among others, the newly developed concept of a maintenance workstation for hygienic food pumps only. The so-called LSA (Life Sciences Applications) hygiene workstation is equipped with stainless steel surfaces, work benches that are easy to clean, and tools and clothing for use in this workstation only. Also, all lubricants supplied are FDA-approved. At the KSB stand in Cologne, such a workstation will be demonstrated by a service engineer performing maintenance work on a hygienic pump live at regular intervals.

Optimizing critical transfer tasks

Processing fish, lard and vegetable oils is the main business of Olvea Group in the small town of Fecamp, close to the English Channel in the northwest of France. These oils that were arriving at the plant were to be used for specific end products. This included the creation of cosmetics, pharmaceuticals, human food and animal feed, as well as various technical uses, such as the building of lasers and as lubricants for leather and metal work.

These processes require strict purity for the oils as they move from transport truck to storage tank to 330-gallon intermediate bulk containers (IBC) and 50-gallon drums, meaning that no cross-contamination could be tolerated. Additionally, because of the high value of the oils, any products that were left in the transport truck, storage tank or hoses after the transfer process was completed would essentially be lost during the necessary cleaning process.

Wangen: New hygienic twin screw pump

This new pump generation offers a spindle change without re-synchronisation of the spindle shafts. All you have to do is remove the housing and loosen the screws and the spindles can then be removed in order to replace the seal in a fast and straightforward manner, for example. Thanks to a self-centring flange casing, which is available as an option, the coupling is optimally aligned automatically. As a result, renewed alignment of the coupling with the pump, e.g. after service activities, is not required. In addition, the Twin guarantees a long service life, among other things, as a result of the further-developed, high-quality components and materials, such as the further-developed shafts.

KSB at drinktec 2017 in Munich

The focal point of KSB’s presence in Munich will be its four hygienic pump series Vitachrom, Vitacast, Vitalobe and Vitaprime. Thanks to the wide range of variants available with these pumps, nearly all tasks in relation with the hygienic handling of liquid and viscous food can be fulfilled.
