Smart pumps and predictive analytics gain traction

Frost & Sullivan’s recent analysis, Global Pumps Market in the Oil and Gas Industry, Forecast to 2024, finds that there has been a concentrated focus on operational expenditure (OPEX) in the oil & gas industry following the oil price plunge in 2016. Upstream companies are increasingly acknowledging digitization as an important enabler of cost savings and profitability, and are therefore gravitating toward tools such as smart pumps. Among the many new-generation pumps in the market, Industrial Internet of Things (IIoT)-enabled and energy-efficient pumps with demonstrable return on investment (RoI) are expected to experience the highest demand.

VDMA at Achema: Pumps + Vacuum pumps meeting “Industry 4.0” demands

The future pump and vacuum pump is intelligent and digitally integrated, according to manufacturers joined at VDMA Pumps + Systems as well as VDMA Vacuum technology. At present manufacturers are developing an administration shell based upon existing information models. This shell, the digital twin, contains all data specifying a pump. „All requested realizations as for example an OPC UA companion specification can be directly deducted from information out of the administration shell. This is evident when developing a pump to meet “Industry 4.0” demands,“ informs Christoph Singrün, managing director at VDMA Pumps + Systems, in the run-up to the Achema in Frankfurt.

Grundfos sales is grown by 5.3 % in 2017

With a turnover of DKK 25.6bn, 2017 was the strongest year ever in Grundfos history. Earnings before interest and tax (EBIT) amounted to DKK 2.346bn (9.2% of net turnover).

“We are very satisfied with the result. We have achieved the highest turnover in company history, our sales growth far exceeded the market trend, and we are well on our way to our 2020 ambition of an EBIT ratio of 10% or higher.” says Group President Mads Nipper.

Niels Due Jensen turns 75

The long-term Group President and Chairman of the Board of Grundfos, Niels Due Jensen, turns 75 on March 8, and takes this opportunity to withdraw himself from the position as Chairman of the Board of the primary owner of Grundfos, the Poul Due Jensen Foundation.

Grundfos has been a substantial part of his entire life, and he has made significant impressions in the company, the industry, and the society alike. It was his father, Poul Due Jensen, who established Grundfos back in 1945. From early childhood, Niels developed an interest in the work, which took place in the smithy, and in the complex engineering trade. In 1960, he got an apprenticeship as a machine tool worker at Grundfos, and after having served in the military, he studied to become a machining engineer at Aarhus Teknikum. After that, he worked as an engineer at Danfoss for a few years, and returned to Bjerringbro and Grundfos in 1974, rejoining as development engineer, and later on director.

Vacuum specialist supports Swissloop team

ETH Zurich students have won the SpaceX competition of US entrepreneur Elon Musk with their Swissloop concept against thousands of other teams. Now, in the summer of 2018, the Swiss will once again be able to prove themselves in the next round with their enhanced capsule.

The Swissloop project is supported by Leybold. The vacuum pioneer has been promoting the Hyperloop projects of the technology revolutionary since 2015 with its vacuum know-how.
