Grundfos delivers continued increase in profitability

Monday, March 13th, 2017 von admin

The net turnover reached 24.7bn DKK whereas earnings before interest and tax (EBIT) hit 2.2bn DKK. A strong second half of the year led to full-year growth of 0.5% in local currencies and net of divestments. EBIT increased approx. 200m DKK over last year, and – when adjusting for non-performance related items in 2015 and 2016 – performance EBIT increased 25% compared to 2015.

“Going into 2016, one of our top priorities was to continue the financial turnaround. With 25% increase in underlying EBIT, we are satisfied with the results we have achieved”, says Group President and CEO Mads Nipper and continues: “It is estimated that the global pump market served by Grundfos stayed flat in 2016. Our modest full-year sales growth therefore means that we have bolstered our position as the globally leading pump solutions provider. After a challenging 1st half of 2016, we are particularly happy that sales regained momentum in the 2nd half of 2016.”

KBL: A Step towards Food Sufficiency

Thursday, March 9th, 2017 von admin

Kirloskar Brothers Limited (KBL) has partnered for food sufficiency with the Government of Senegal, a country in Western Africa. Before 2005, Senegal’s irrigation infrastructure was under-developed. Government of Senegal was not able to meet the expected food sufficiency levels of the country because of the haphazard irrigation techniques. For achieving better means of livelihood, the Government of Senegal felt the urge to resolve the issue of unemployment among the rural youth and stop their exodus to cities.

The major challenge faced by Senegal was the need for skilled labour. In North Senegal, lack of proper irrigation equipment was identified as the foremost problem. Even though there was abundant water available in the Senegal River, there was no mode to direct it to the fields in sufficient quantities required to irrigate rice. Alongside, South Senegal was grieving over existence of excessive saline surface water for irrigation purposes. The feasible alternative was to tap ground water in order to receive a supply fit for the yield.

Sustainable business builds a better world

Monday, January 16th, 2017 von admin

The Business and Social Development Commission takes a thorough look at a challenged world in a report released today. It is called ‘Better Business, Better World‘, and it focuses on how joint action from the political, societal and business spheres is decisive, if the world is to reach the UN’s ambitious Sustainable Development Goals by 2030. Among the key messages are that it is necessary to build sustainable business models around the global issues, if they are to be resolved in a sound and long-lasting way, and that the time for action is now.

“This report is a call to action to business leaders. We are on the edge and business as usual will drive more political opposition and land us with an economy that simply doesn’t work for enough people. We have to switch tracks to a business model that works for a new kind of inclusive growth. Better Business, Better World shows there is a compelling incentive for why the latter isn’t just good for the environment and society; it makes good business sense,” says Mark Malloch-Brown, Chair of the Business and Sustainable Development Commission and former Deputy Secretary-General of the UN.
