Systematic flow metering – instrumentation for water supply in desert region

Tuesday, January 30th, 2018 von admin

Aguas de Saltillo, the water utility company which serves the city of Saltillo in Mexico, is responsible for supplying drinking water to a population of around 850,000. To ensure a reliable supply in this arid desert city, the company relies on a water network which draws from several reservoirs with the aid of process instrumentation from Siemens. The Sitrans F M MAG 8000 electromagnetic flow meters used here are outstandingly robust, durable and reliable, as well as requiring minimal maintenance. Over a hundred of these devices have now been installed in the Aguas de Saltillo network.

Further growth for Endress+Hauser in China

Monday, January 29th, 2018 von admin

Only five years after the most recent expansion in China, the Endress+Hauser Group has once again increased production capacity with a third plant in Suzhou, 100 kilometers west of Shanghai. The 16,500-square-meter facility will help the Group meet disproportionately high growth in the Far East.

The opening of the new building, which is situated in Suzhou Industrial Park, a 450-square-kilometer campus that is home to more than 20,000 companies, was celebrated today in the presence of representatives from government and business, as well as customers and employees. The new plant will give the centers of competence for flow measurement engineering, liquid analysis and temperature measurement engineering additional capacity.

Couplings in Pump Applications

Friday, January 26th, 2018 von admin

The Sure-Flex Plus couplings have new elastomeric sleeves providing higher performance and enhanced durability due to significant improvements in proprietary EPDM and Neoprene materials. Development testing confirmed that the new EPDM and Neoprene rubber sleeves enable a 30 % increase in the torque rating when compared to the previous generation sleeves. Sure-Flex Plus couplings provide torsional flexibility, while the 4-way flexing action absorbs virtually all types of

  • shock,
  • vibration,
  • misalignment and
  • end float.

State-Of-The-Art Winery Embraces Innovative Technology

Thursday, January 25th, 2018 von admin

Technical paper by: Vincent Lejeau

Bailly Lapierre is one of the leading producers of Crémant de Bourgogne, a white or rose sparkling wine made predominantly from Pinot Noir and Chardonnay grapes. As is the case with many European wineries and vineyards, Bailly Lapierre exudes history and tradition. Not only can the company’s origins be traced back to the late Roman Empire when vineyards first began to flourish in the region, but its day-to-day operations are situated 50 meters (165 feet) underground in an ancient quarry that supplied the stone for some of the greatest works in France’s architectural heritage: the Pantheon, Notre-Dame de Paris and Chartres Cathedral. And if this wasn’t enough history, the location was also used as a German airplane hangar during World War II and as a mushroom-cultivation center until 1970.

Efficiency comparison pumping system

Thursday, January 25th, 2018 von admin

An increasing number of pumps are now being run using speed control in order to be able to define the dynamic volume flow. The pump’s quadratic characteristic causes the motor load to decrease rapidly at lower speeds, which results in the level of efficiency decreasing significantly. Using the diagrams, it can be seen that the ideal workload for the existing asynchronous motor is not reached, due to operation at partial loads (approx. 30%) and speeds (75%).

If the pump is then equipped with a PMSM motor that has an extended efficiency range including partial load operation, the level of efficiency can be increased by approx. 12% in this example and savings of more than EUR 250 per pump per year can be achieved (depending on the number of hours‘ operation per year).

KSB at Anuga FoodTec 2018 in Cologne

Wednesday, January 24th, 2018 von admin

In the limelight at the KSB Anuga FoodTec trade fair stand is, among others, the newly developed concept of a maintenance workstation for hygienic food pumps only. The so-called LSA (Life Sciences Applications) hygiene workstation is equipped with stainless steel surfaces, work benches that are easy to clean, and tools and clothing for use in this workstation only. Also, all lubricants supplied are FDA-approved. At the KSB stand in Cologne, such a workstation will be demonstrated by a service engineer performing maintenance work on a hygienic pump live at regular intervals.

Graphical user interface for dosing pumps

Wednesday, January 24th, 2018 von admin

The German micro-pump manufacturer HNP Mikrosysteme is introducing the mzr-Touch Control as a new possibility to control micro annular gear pumps (mzr-pumps) via a graphical user interface. The multilingual graphical user interface supplements the present control of mzr-dosing pumps via laptop or PC. The mzr-Touch Control is compatible to most mzr-pump sizes and series with low to medium power drives. This compact device controls one pump each and is easy and intuitive to handle. Dosage volumes from 0.25 µl and flow rate ranges of 1 µl/min to 288 ml/min can be indicated by the user. This system will be presented at Analytica 2018 in Munich, Hall 1, booth 409.

Pumping and Mixing with a Minimum of Energy Consumption

Monday, January 15th, 2018 von admin

Packo Pumps in Belgium and Daniatech in Denmark have bundled their expertise in pump manufacturing and mixing and have set a new standard in high-shear pumps.

The patented rotor-stator design was optimized with CFD and gives the pump an unrivalled energetic efficiency. “The energy consumption is 40 % to 50 % lower compared to other high-shear pumps”, so an information of the manufacturer. “This high efficiency does not only result in a lower energy bill for every hour the pump is in operation, but also reduces the initial investment. The high-shear pump can be fitted with a smaller motor and the possible frequency convertor is also smaller and cheaper. The optimized flow through the rotor-stator also results in a very quiet operation.”
