KSB: High-efficiency motor with integrated frequency inverter

Prototype demonstrates potentia: The KSB Group has finished the prototype of a super-compact high-efficiency motor with an integrated frequency inverter. The 22-kW synchronous reluctance motor is a prototype featuring new semiconductor technology that provides completely new cooling management for eliminating heat from power electronics.

By integrating the frequency inverter into the motor, developers were able to reduce the unit volume by over 25 percent compared with the traditional design.

New inline single stage centrifugal pump range

The new SIL pump range was developed by Sulzer to meet the process requirements in various general and industrial applications. The SIL pump range is developed for pumping mainly clean and slightly contaminated liquids, viscous liquids up to 250 cSt, and fibrous slurries up to a consistency of 1%. The hydraulic design ensures efficient pumping with a low NPSHr (net positive suction head required) across the whole pump range.

The inline design together with the monoblock construction makes the SIL pump compact, rigid and reliable. The pump is available either with an integrated motor or with a standard IEC motor. SIL pumps are easy and fast to install both in vertical and in horizontal positions, and they require only a small installation space.

Lewa: Follow-up order of another 20 pumps to Saudi Arabia

Lewa delivered 40 process diaphragm pumps to two large offshore platforms on the Persian Gulf in 2013. Lewa has got now a follow-up order to this 30 Mio Euro order – the largest in the history of Lewa. The follow-up order includes

  • 8 LGB2 Boxer pumps and
  • 12 LDH5 series process pumps

These pumps are used for transferring monoethylene glycol (MEG) from the Tie In Platforms (TP) to the Well Head Platforms (WHP) and on-site MEG injection. This injection is intended to prevent the ice formation in the drill hole that can occur during the formation of methane hydrate. The project will be completed in 2019.

The plant will increase the gas output from 70 million m³ up to 126 million m3 per day.

LIP-Pfeiffer Vacuum Joint Center for Vacuum Technology established in Lanzhou

Pfeiffer Vacuum signed a strategic cooperation agreement with Lanzhou Institute of Physics (LIP) in Asslar, Germany. As one of the founders of the Chinese Vacuum Society, the Lanzhou Institute of Physics is a pioneer in vacuum technology in China. LIP is also one of the first institutes in China which has been directly engaged in satellite and spacecraft development and is therefore a part of the China Academy of Space Technology (CAST) since 1968. Pfeiffer Vacuum and LIP will cooperate in research and development to create vacuum solutions for aerospace applications, vacuum metrology, vacuum calibration and other applications.

Heat transfer oil circulation pump acc. to DIN EN 733

The pump manufacturer Dickow has developed a new pump line NKX for circulation of thermal oil. The pump casing is designed for 16 bar and 350 °C. The new pump line extends the application limit of the previous NKLs-type. The new NKX will replace the series NKLs with exactly the same dimensions in future.

The NKX is used as a circulation pump for hot oils in industrial heating plants/units. The performance range covers capacities up to 400 m3/h and differential heads up to 90 m in 50 Hz services; and capacities up to 2,500 US-gpm and differential heads up to 400 ft in 60 Hz services. The dimensions and performance range of these centrifugal pumps are according to DIN EN 733, that means range is subdivided into different pump sizes in order to achieve best efficiency for all service conditions inside the envelope.

Pump Engineer – Study Courses 2018 in German and English

Since 2005 the study programme for pump engineers provides specific training and know-how in terms of academic extra occupational, distance-learning study courses. During these 12 years approximately 30 lecturers have trained more than 300 pump experts coming from different branches – be it manufacturers, operators or planners.

According to Prof. Dr.-Ing Helmut Jaberg, who initiated the pump engineer study programme, the reasons for its success are the following: “The high level of appreciation with regard to our training offers can be measured by the fact that companies, whose employees have already graduated from the study courses, are increasingly encouraging their staff to take this training. Thus, the German study course which started in July 2017 reached the record number of 37 participants. We are really glad to see that companies repeatedly send employees to participate in our programme. Obviously the way it is performed – with a certain rigour and yet with a good sense of proportion – is well received by them.”

BPMA Announces New President

Duncan Lewis, Managing Director of Xylem Water Solutions UK Ltd has been announced as the new President of the British Pump Manufacturers Association Limited (BPMA).

The role was officially passed on at the recent BPMA Annual General Meeting, where Mr Peter Reynolds, Managing Director of Grundfos Pumps Ltd, completed his two-year tenure as President and graciously handed the baton onto his worthy successor.
