With the launch of its 6th generation gear pumps, to be first unveiled at the K’2013 show, Maag redesigned every single component featured in its pump portfolio, from gears and shafts through to bearings and seals, fine-tuning how all components interact, culminating in a system with a new industry-leading price/performance ratio.

Oerlikon Leybold Vacuum received a double-digit million Euro order for vacuum technology from a global manufacturer of uranium centrifuges for nuclear power facilities.
Dickow Pumpen, based in Germany, has awarded several orders covering 164 pieces of magnetic coupled pumps for the Sadara Chemical Complex. Sadara is a joint venture of Dow Chemical and Saudi Aramco located in Jubail Industrial City, Saudi Arabia. Once completed it will represent the largest petrochemical facility ever built in a single phase. The fully integrated complex will consist of 26 chemical manufacturing units producing a variety of chemicals, such as amines, propylene glycol, polyurethanes, low density polyethylene, elastomers, glycol ethers and propylene oxide.
Due to the sheer size of the complex multiple EPC (engineering, procurement and construction) contractors are involved in the realization of this huge project. Dickow pumps are part of several pump packages for different production units, including orders from Daelim (South Korea), Fluor (USA), Jacobs / Alfa Laval (Denmark) and lately Tecnicas Reunidas (Spain). 100 pumps are already shipped or almost completed.
With the Sinamics G120P Cabinet, Siemens Drive Technologies Division is now able to provide an inverter cabinet unit especially adapted to pumps, fans, and compressors. The power spectrum of the existing Sinamics G120P series is thus extended to 200 kW. In line with the Integrated Drive Systems strategy, the drive is optimally adapted to operation with Simotics severe-duty and flexible-duty motors. For example, the inverter output currents have been adapted to the motor rated currents and the motors to the rated pulse frequencies of the inverters. Because the components interact as an integrated drive system, the voltage is optimally utilized and the noise level of the motor is also reduced by 4 dB. The efficiency of the overall system is 98 percent. The new inverter also has application-specific functions that enable economical operation of pumps.
With a total investment of 4.4 billion USD, the expansion of the Cartagena Industrial Refinery has led the largest industrial investment in Spain. It will enable to increase the capacity of distillation up to 11 million tons annually (previously 5 million), which is 220,000 barrels per day. Cartagena is a valuable port for the supply of fuel, and it has now been connected to the Puertollano refinery by a new 357 kms oil pipeline.

has to be available continually. The pumps are mounted in the platform pillars, each of them conveying 600 m³/h at the operating point.
The KSB Group has supplied 70 pumps and around 700 butterfly valves to the new cruise ship Europa 2 run by Hamburg-based cruise ship organiser, Hapag-Lloyd Cruises. The pumps’ spectrum of applications is varied and ranges from cooling the drives in the submerged pods to transporting seawater in ballast systems, supplying fire-fighting systems and handling fresh water, service water, waste water and sewage.
Noticeable energy savings at energy consuming fluid systems demand a global system optimization that behaves robust against uncertainties of load histories. Therefore, it is essential to switch the focus from traditional product scaling (Product Approach, Extended Product Approach) to a focus on system optimization (System Approach).
Like a chess player, the planning entity has to consider and evaluate scenarios until she finds a system topology which is suited to achieve the system goal with a minimum of energy. Because of the large number of combinatorial combinations, this can only be achieved with the help of computers and sophisticated algorithms.
Pfeiffer Vacuum, a leading supplier of vacuum technology worldwide, will be taking part in the MSV trade fair in Brno, Czech Republic, from October 7–11. Visitors of the booth will be able to discuss innovative vacuum solutions with experts from Pfeiffer Vacuum. “Our ambition to provide all our customers with the perfect vacuum solution for their particular use spurs us on to greater achievement. We are pleased to be able to present some new vacuum solutions here in Brno. These product developments will raise the bar for the whole vacuum industry,” states Dr. Matthias Wiemer, member of the Management Board of Pfeiffer Vacuum Technology AG.
